Drink Spiking is where someone adds a mind-altering substance such as alcohol, or extra alcohol or some form of drug into another person's drink without that person's knowledge.
They think it's funny
They intend to attack their victim in some way
They intend to steal something from the victim
They want to kidnap the victim
Drink spiking is not a funny thing to do. It is against the law to 'spike' someone's drink and if it is proved that when they spiked someone's drink a person intended to endanger their victims life or inflict bodily harm there is a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
More women than men are victims of drink spiking. Many people are too embarrassed to report the incident. In 2002, over 900 incidents were reported across the country, but the true figure is likely to be much, much higher.
